Introduction

In Thailand, the Tax Identification Number (TIN) is a unique identifier assigned to taxpayers for the purpose of tax administration. It is essential for individuals, businesses, and entities to possess the correct TIN to ensure compliance with Thai tax regulations. All information presented here is verified from the Revenue Department of Thailand’s official website.

Tax Identification Number Types

In Thailand, the TIN is officially known as the “Taxpayer Identification Number.” The types of TINs and their applicability are as follows:

  • Individuals: Thai nationals use their Personal Identification Number (PIN) assigned under the civilian registration law as their TIN. Foreign individuals, non-juristic ordinary partnerships, non-juristic bodies of persons, or undivided estates without a PIN must apply for a TIN.
  • Juristic Persons (Businesses and Legal Entities): All juristic persons liable to corporate income tax are required to obtain a TIN.

TIN Format and Structure

The TIN in Thailand comprises 13 digits. The specific structure is not detailed in the available official sources. However, it is confirmed that the TIN consists solely of numeric characters without letters or country codes.

Issuing Authority and Registration Process

The Revenue Department of Thailand is the official authority responsible for issuing TINs. Detailed information is available on their official website: Revenue Department – Tax Identification.

Registration Process:

  1. Individuals without a PIN:
  • Eligibility: Foreign individuals, non-juristic ordinary partnerships, non-juristic bodies of persons, or undivided estates without a PIN.
  • Required Documents:

  • House registration book of the taxpayer or estate administrator.
  • Court order appointing estate administrator (if applicable).
  • Application Form: Form L.P. 10.1 for individuals; Form L.P. 10.2 for non-juristic ordinary partnerships and bodies of persons.
  • Where to Apply:
  • In Bangkok: Area Revenue Office or Area Revenue Branch Office with jurisdiction over the domicile.
  • In other provinces: Area Revenue Branch Office with jurisdiction over the domicile.
  • Deadline: Within 60 days from the date of deriving assessable income.
  1. Juristic Persons (Businesses and Legal Entities):
  • Eligibility: All juristic persons liable to corporate income tax.
  • Required Documents:
  • Photocopy of the house registration book of the place of business of the head office.
  • Certificate of incorporation.
  • Certificate of carrying on business in Thailand.
  • Contract of joint venture (if applicable).

  • Document allowing use of place (if using another person’s place as the place of business).
  • Application Form: Form L.P. 10.3.
  • Where to Apply:
  • In Bangkok: Area Revenue Office or Area Revenue Branch Office with jurisdiction over the head office location.
  • In other provinces: Area Revenue Office with jurisdiction over the head office location.
  • Online: Thai juristic persons may apply via the Internet at TIN Registration within 60 days from the incorporation date.
  • Deadline: Within 60 days from the incorporation date or, for foreign companies, from the date of commencing business in Thailand.

TIN Verification and Lookup

Currently, there is no publicly accessible online tool provided by the Revenue Department of Thailand for real-time TIN verification. For verification purposes, individuals and businesses are advised to contact the Revenue Department directly or visit their local Revenue Office.

TIN and VAT Number Connection

In Thailand, the TIN also serves as the Value Added Tax (VAT) identification number. Businesses registered for VAT use their TIN for VAT-related transactions and filings. The format remains the same 13-digit numeric structure.

Importance of Accurate TIN Validation

Ensuring the accuracy of TINs is crucial for both individuals and businesses. Incorrect TINs can lead to issues in tax filings, potential penalties, and complications in business transactions. Accurate TIN validation is essential to maintain compliance with Thai tax laws and to facilitate smooth domestic and international operations.

Why Accurate TIN Validation Matters

Ensuring the accuracy of your TIN is critical for both businesses and individuals in Thailand. An incorrect or unverified TIN can lead to serious complications such as:

  • Delays in tax processing
  • Rejection of tax exemption claims
  • Fines and penalties for non-compliance
  • Rejection of e-invoicing submissions
  • Onboarding unqualified suppliers or customers
  • Data quality issues across finance and compliance systems

Using the Thailand Revenue Department’s official website or TaxDo real-time global tax ID verification platform ensures accurate Tax ID validation, error reduction, and full compliance with Thai tax laws.
