Denmark Tax ID Number (TIN) Guide

Introduction

In Denmark, Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) are essential for individuals and businesses to comply with tax regulations. These unique identifiers facilitate accurate tax reporting, social security administration, and other governmental interactions. The information provided here is verified from official Danish tax authority websites and trusted government sources.

Tax Identification Number Types

Denmark utilizes two primary types of Tax Identification Numbers:

  1. Personal Identification Number (CPR-nummer): Assigned to individuals.
  1. Central Business Register Number (CVR-nummer): Assigned to businesses and legal entities.

The CPR number is used for personal identification, while the CVR number serves as the unique identifier for businesses and organizations.

TIN Format and Structure

Personal Identification Number (CPR-nummer)

  • Format: 10 digits in the format DDMMYY-SSSS.
  • DDMMYY: Represents the individual’s date of birth (Day, Month, Year).
  • SSSS: A sequence number where the last digit indicates gender (odd for males, even for females).

For example, a CPR number could be 010203-1234, indicating a birthdate of February 1, 2003, with a male identifier.

Central Business Register Number (CVR-nummer)

  • Format: 8 digits.
    • A unique sequence assigned upon business registration.

For instance, a CVR number might be 12345678.

TIN Verification and Lookup

Personal Identification Number (CPR-nummer)

While the CPR number’s format can be verified using the EU TIN on Europa portal, personal data verification is restricted to authorized entities to protect individual privacy.

Central Business Register Number (CVR-nummer)

Businesses and individuals can verify CVR numbers through the Central Business Register (CVR) website by searching using the CVR number or company name.
